On Broadway, he received a Tony nomination for his performance as Tommy in Brigadoon, a Drama Desk Award for the role of Nick that he originated in Maltby and Shire’s Baby, and an LA Drama Critic’s Award (during the pre-Broadway tour) for his acclaimed performance as Jud Fry in Oklahoma! His other Broadway credits include Sky Masterson in the Tony Award winning revival of Guys and Dolls (Jerry Zaks, director), Man Number One in The Roundabout production of A Grand Night for Singing, and Saul in Disney’s King David. Other credits include Bellomy in the Off Broadway revival of The Fantasticks, the King opposite Sandy Duncan in the national tour of The King And I, the voice of the King in the animated feature film The King and I…and his favorite role: father to Tony Award-winning Broadway star Laura Benante. What Matters To Me is an evening of songs and stories from Marty’s life on and off Broadway…from shows he’s starred in, from his childhood, from The Great American Songbook, as he say, “ a wonderful concert of great, familiar songs woven together by personal reminiscences, humorous anecdotes...and vice versa.” What Matters To Me has been performed numerous times to critical acclaim at New York’s legendary cabaret rooms as well at prestigious venues like The Barns at Wolftrap. |
