After a stint with The Contours, The Temptations officially introduced Dennis Edwards on July 9, 1968 on stage in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. With his rougher gospel-hewn vocals, Edwards led the group through its psychedelic, funk, and disco periods; two of the Temptations songs he appears on, Cloud Nine (1968) and Papa Was a Rollin' Stone (1972), won Grammy Awards. Edwards was the lead singer on many or the other Temptations hits including “I Cant’ Get Next To you” “Ball of Confusion” “Psychedelic Shack” and “My Girl”. The Temptations became one of the most successful Motown groups in the world.
